Njord - Paddle kayak in the Fjords of Norway

Small boats. Big impressions. The feeling is unique, travelling by sea kayak, the efficient boatdesign made by inuits thousands of years ago, in the most dramatic fjord landscape of Norway. From our bases in Flåm and Balestrand we provide you with kayaking and hiking adventures all summer through our experienced guides. We have years of experience in this area, – and we provide kayaking adventures at all levels. We operate from Balestrand town centre and Flåm Beach, a three-minute walk from the train station.

Season in Flåm 1st June to 1st September.

The Fjord Paddle (3 hours)

Spending a few hours in Flåm? Join one of our easy 3-hour seakayak paddles. Just long enough to get the feeling of the peaceful fjord landscape. A Njord-guide will take you out on the water, teach you the basics of kayaking if needed, and guide you through the landscape and history of the area. Kayak, paddle, sprayskirt, jacket, pump and paddlefloat is included

The Old Kings Path (4Hours)

This is a seakayak tour and short hike combined, the ideal way to experience the Fjords of Norway. We paddle to Fronneset, a place of historical importance from the viking era, and follow a winding path along a wild river, passing amazing waterfalls and bubbling lagoons. We will have a short break on land, so bring a snack, lunch is not provided. Kayak, paddle, sprayskirt, jacket, pump and paddlefloat is included

The Fjord Explorer (3 days)

We paddle the sea kayaks along the Aurlandsfjord and the full length of the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. Passing through the landscape that has been carved out by glaciers, watching the waterfalls dive off the steep mountainsides and if we are lucky we might even spot seals, eagles, otters and small whales on our way.

On day two we will take a hike to Beitelen, a viewpoint at 980 m above sea level, to take in the spectacular view of the Fjords.

The view will certainly take your breath away!

An experienced kayak and mountain guide will lead you on your way through the fjords and on the mountain, as well as through the history of the area.

Njord provides the kayak and camping equipment, as well as the food throughout the trip. All you need to bring is warm clothes, waterproofs, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, hiking booths and a small backpack.

Please pack light as everything must fit inside a small kayak. You can leave the rest of your equipment at our base.

All sheduled trips start Friday at 09.30 from the Beach in Flåm, and should finish in Gudvangen by 17.00 on the sunday.

Trips are scheduled during the season, but we arrange this trip with groups larger than 4 people on request. We also arrange other multiday tours on request. Please contact us for information.

Trips from Balestrand

The Fjord Paddle (3 hours)

Join one of our easy 3-hour paddles from the fjordside village of Balestrand. A Njord-guide will take you out on the water, teach you the basics of kayaking if needed, and guide you through the landscape and history of the area.

This trip suits everyone, no kayaking experience needed.
Daily Daily departures at 10.00 and 15.00 from 15th of June to 15th of August.

We also arrange day tours to Fjærland or Kvamsøy on request.

We take the ferry from Balestrand town centre to Fjærland and visit Bokbyen and then paddle back to Balestrand. Departure and arrival times of the trip to / from Fjærland depends on the ferry schedule, ferry ticket is not included.

We paddle from Balestrand town centre to Kvamsøy and back. Whilst there we visit local attractions and guide you through local area and history.

Lunch is not included so bring a lunchpack. Njord brings tea & coffee. These tours suits everyone, minimum age 11, no kayaking experience needed. However, you should be in a normally good physical condition. Both day tours will have a price of NOK 890,- and require a minimum of four people.

Kayak Rental

In Flåm and Balestrand you may rent both double and single kayaks. Please be aware that we do not rent out single kayaks to solo paddlers, and only to experienced kayakers with certified rescue skills (NPF, BCU, ACA etc.). Double kayaks are more stabile and more suitable for less experienced paddlers.

Pick-Up/Drop-Off in Gudvangen

Going on your own on the famous Flåm-Gudvangen trip? Well, then the logistics can be a challenge. We can pick up/drop off you and your kayaks in Gudvangen before or after your kayak trip. Has to be prebooked!
